Ceroxylon alpinum

Famous high altitude palm from 2000 metres up in the Andes Mountains of South America where it endures
cool and damp conditions for most of the year. An acid soil suits it best (use Miracid) together with moist
and damp conditions and of course an adequate supply of water. Opinions as to its hardiness vary;
certainly it will require protection for the first few years if grown outside. Alternatively, grow it in a cool
greenhouse for a few years until it is big enough to plant out.
