Cycas siamensis

Synonymy: Epicycas siamensis, C. immersa, C. aurea, C. cochinchinensis Distribution: Central Thailand
Common name: Burmese—môndaing; Lao—ma prou tou; Thai—maphrao tao, phrao tao, prong pa (forest or field cycad), talapat ruesi, talapat rusi. Source: M. Bonta & R. Osborne, Cycads in the Vernacular. Conservation status: Not threatened

 

This is surely a rare cycad of great interest to collectors. Dark green pinnate leaves and a trunk to perhaps 2 m. Coming as it does, from areas with high annual rainfall, it requires a good supply of water and should never be allowed to dry out. Photos are of the silver form in habitat.
