Introduction

This is a presentation of the worlds cycads, a very primitive group of vascular plants, survived more than 200 million years since they arose. The Cycads are very ancient as plant group. They were on their richest and having the widest distribution in the Mesozoic era, and played an important role of the Triassic and Jurassic vegetation, i.e. for about 220 to 120 million years ago. Since then, they have been in decline and today they have only a relict distribution.
