Damage
Naturally these plants have few threats in the reserve itself but some still occur. In the first two pictures damage due to fire can be seen. Burning in this area is strictly controlled nowadays but still happens from time to time, as can be seen however the plants do recover from the burning and only retain the blackened trunks to show what has happened. In the next picture a fallen giant, this plant became too tall and as a result strong winds blew it over. Regeneration takes place at the base of these plants in the form of suckering as can be seen in the last picture.
An interesting feature on some of the larger plants are these ferns that grow around the top of the plant's trunks.
