Some of the plants

After managing the nearly impassable dirt road to the gates of the reserve one travels along a small two track road to a picnic site that has been developed at the top of the hill where the cycads occur. From here one can take one of four possible walks through and down into the forest. The amazing view from up at the picnic spot can be seen in the first picture in the third row. The plants seem only to grow on this side of the hill and a clearly defined border can be seen running along the crest of the hill. The general trend seems to be that the larger plants occur at the top of the hill and moving down into the valley their size decreases, this is probably due to the original plants growing at the top and seeds being dispersed down along the gradient. All along the footpath down the hill there are plants with trunks up to 15 m tall, in general the trunks are about 3-5 m tall though but thousands of smaller plants crowd the spaces under the bigger plants. According to sources there are between 10-15,000 mature plants in the reserve.
